I just wanted to give a quick post to let you all know I'm safe and I'm in Uganda. Travel was long and exhausting but also fun. I got to see the Alps and the Mediterranean Sea from the plan yesterday as I was traveling from Brussels to Uganda. The flight actually stopped in Kigali Rwanda before heading to Entebbe Uganda. I thought it was great to cross over the equator for the fist time last night. There was a little bit of a mix up last night at the airport and I did not connect with the tour company who is handling all my travel. I had to improvise and grab a taxi to get me to a hostel in Kampala, Uganda's Capital. I've already made contact this morning with the tour company and I will be on my way to the Bwindi Hospital shortly. Last night was of course New Years and there was as much celebrating here as anywhere which made the taxi ride interesting. The taxi driver was showing me how people along the street were buying car tires among other things to celebrate. I arrived safely but with all the people, the celebrating and the speed at which the taxi driver liked to go I was sure we were going to hit somebody (and came close several times) or end up hurt ourselves. Hope you all had a great new years!

On the way: Stop over in Atlanta.
Hey all,
I think a blog might be the best way to keep everyone up on the happenings of my travels as they happen. I'm excited to be going on this trip to Uganda and will of course be as safe as I can. Thank you to everyone for the well wishes, hugs, and prayers. It is set to be a great trip.
I'm currently in Atlanta on a layover before heading off to Brussels which I learned this morning is in Belgium which is just west of Germany. (my European geography is not great) I will be leaving this evening on my flight to Brussels where I will make a sharp right and head south to Uganda. This trip will rack up many firsts for me: already I've seen Atlanta (sort of, the airport anyway) and very shortly I will be visiting the continents of Europe and Africa for the first time. Needless to say I'm excited about the trip and I'm thankful for the opportunity to be able to go. I'll try and keep you updated as much as I can. There is limited internet at the guest house I'll be staying in but the hope is to continue the blog and post pictures as time and internet allow. Wish everyone the best!
